Actress Thandie Newton and her husband Ol Parker welcomed their third child, a son, on Monday. Joining big sisters Nico and Ripley is Booker Jombe.
Booker means “scribe,” and the most famous bearer of the name is Booker T. Washington, a late 19th-century African-American leader and educator, and author of Up From Slavery. Booker fell out of the top 1000 back in the 1960s, but could make a comeback with all of the other occupational names, like Mason, Carter and Hunter.
Jombe is the name of several towns in African countries like Angola and Nigeria, and a surname from there. It’s also the name of a type of deep purple chrysanthemum.
I think it’s the perfect name for this family filled with unique names—you wouldn’t expect a couple named Thandie and Ol to go with John or Liam for their son!
What do you think of Thandie and Ol’s pick? Is Booker ready for a comeback?
